Jagannath Temple, Puri

Jagannath Temple is located on the coastal region of Orissa. The temple is regarded as one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in India and is counted one amongst the real Chardham destinations. The Jagannath Temple is devoted to Lord Jagannath. The literal meaning of Jagannath evolved from its Sanskrit language where ‘Jagat’ means the universe and ‘Nath’ means The Lord. The meaning of ‘Jagannath’ is ‘Lord of the Universes’. Puri is known to be the cultural capital of Orissa. The city has sustained to be an integral part of cultural heritage since age. Every religion has its roots beneath this holy city.

Puri is believed to be one of the oldest cities of India. It is located in the Eastern part of the country, Orissa. Lord Krishna is worshipped in the Jagannath Temple in the form of Lord Jagannath. The temple also worships Lord Krishna’s sister as Goddess Subhadra and his brother God Balabhadra. The Jagannath temple is 1000 years old and was constructed by Raja Choda Ganga Deva and Raja Tritya Ananga Bhima Deva. Govardhan Matha, one of the four mathas established by Guru Adi Shankaracharya is also located in Puri. Chariot Festival is celebrated with great pomp and show in Puri. Brahma – Vishnu - Mahesh are worshipped together at Puri.
