Uttarkashi - Sacred town in Uttrakhand

Uttarkashi is one the holy town in Uttrakhand, India. Uttarkashi, Kashi of the North is district headquarter of Uttarkashi. It is situated at an elevation of 1352m above sea level, on the banks of River Bhagirathi. Uttarkashi features many ashrams, temples and also the famous Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. Like Varanasi, Uttarkashi is also located on the banks of River Ganga. Uttarkashi is situated near Varun Parvat. Uttarkashi is also amours for Manikarnika Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is also known as Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The most of Uttarkashi is hill area and many rivers flow through Uttarkashi. Yamuna and Ganga (Bhagirathi) are the biggest and sacred rivers among them. The tributaries of River Ganga include Asi Ganga and Jad Ganga.
