The majestic journey to Kedarnath can often prove to be a little expensive for some. Thus, people decide to give it up altogether. More often than not, pilgrims and tourists end up making a few mistakes which makes their trip a little heavier on the pocket.

Your trip to Kedarnath can be quite budget and pocket-friendly. You just have to make sure that you have the right route charted, the right accommodation picked and the right transportation ready. Sometimes it can get too confusing to chart out a full plan on a strict budget. So, for your use, we have drafted an entire Kedarnath Yatra itinerary, along with prices, to show you how to complete your journey in under INR 5000.

Day 1

The best way to travel from Delhi to Kedarnath is by using public transport, especially buses. In the current years, several new bus services have started for the increasing number of pilgrims to Kedarnath Yatra. These bus services are not only within the budget but also convenient.

Take a bus for Haridwar to Delhi on the first day. You will find several AC Sleeper buses on this route, all of which will be mainly filled with pilgrims. The approx cost for a one-way bus ride from- Delhi to Haridwar is about INR 400.

Ensure to pack your lunch. You shouldn’t be spending more than INR 120 on your lunch.

Enjoy the comfortable bus ride, and admire the changing sceneries. Relish the breathtaking landscapes, and notice how you leave the concrete jungle and step into a lush green forest with dense trees and awe-inspiring mountains in the backdrop.

Once you reach Haridwar, get yourself a hotel to stay in for the night.

The average cost of a budget hotel in Haridwar is INR 500 per night, however, if you can pre-book an ashram then you will only have to pay INR 100- INR 120. Make sure you pre-book your accommodation in Haridwar, especially during the peak season. Otherwise, you might end up not having a proper shelter, or the hotels might overcharge you.

Have a delicious dinner, which should cost you about INR 150, and then take an ample amount of rest.

Day 2

Before heading out, make sure you pack your breakfast and lunch both. Most of the hotels or dhabas will do this for you since you have a long bus journey ahead of you. This should cost you about INR 200 in total for both lunch and dinner.

Board a bus to Gaurikund, from the main Haridwar Bus Stand. Buses to Gaurikund from Sonprayag ply twice a day, and only in the peak season. If you are unable to find a bus for Gaurikund or ned up missing one, then board a bus to Sonprayag. The Tehri Garhwal Motor Owners Corporation Pvt Ltd.(TGMOC) plies till Sonprayag daily for INR 500 one way.

The bus starts at 5:15 am, so you must be at the bus stand before that. Alternatively, if you do fond the Gaurikund bus, then ensure you board it, to reach Gaurikund directly.

Once you reach Sonprayag, hitch up a shared jeep, and head over to Gaurikund. This should cost you about INR 20. A lot of drivers will try scamming you, and ask you to pay extra, so beware of such scams.

Once you reach Gaurikund, look for an ashram. The rate of an ashram should be around INR 100. You can also have amazing food for only INR 150 for dinner at any nearby Dhaba. At times you might even get food at the ashram you are staying, which can make it even cheaper.

Day 3

After enjoying a good sleep, indulge in some lovely breakfast, as today you will have to trek about 16 km to reach the holy place of Kedarnath. Breakfast will cost you about INR 80, and you can also pack some snacks for the trek, which will cost about INR 20.

Start your trek early in the morning to avoid the blistering heat. The trek is quite enjoyable especially during the peak season, since you will be waking with pilgrims and devotees chanting hymns, and making everything more pious and divine. The trek itself is quite scenic, and you will find yourself passing through enchanting streams, and the Himalayas in the background, will always be there to keep you company.

Once you reach Kedarnath, delve into the realm of spirituality and offer your prayers at the gorgeous Kedarnath Temple.

Once you are done with the temple visiting, you can hitch up a lovely tent nearby and stay the night.

There are several vendors from whom you can hire a tent/hotel. The tent along with the food should cost you about INR 200 to 500, sometimes if you can get it for cheaper if you choose to share the tent, or have amazing bargaining skills.

Day 4

Explore Kedarnath once again early in the morning, before you bid adieu to this captivating place. You can also visit the temple and attend the morning prayers. Indulge in some good food from a nearby Dhaba for INR 100, and then make your way back home the same way.

Please Note: All the costs given are for one night for a hotel/ashram stay, and one way for jeeps and buses. For a round trip, just double the prices of each and you will have a total figure of your entire tour. If you follow this route and itinerary, your cost will come up to INR 4000 – 5000 (approx)
