The mesmerizing Gangotri Temple is a brilliant temple made up of printing marble and is about 20 feet high. This temple is an important part of the Hindu pilgrimage spots, and you will always find it filled with pilgrims and devotees. The temple is devoted to Goddess Ganga and was erected by a Gurkha Commander.

Jalmagna Shivling

Located close to the Gangotri Temple, the Jalmagna Shivling is a fascinating sight to witness. Not only is the Jalmagna Shivling highly revered, but also unique.

Locals and devotees believe that this is a naturally occurring Shivling, which is only visible during the winter season. This happens because, during this season the water level of the river goes down, and the submerged Shivling starts to emerge like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Many believe this symbolizes the popular legend which says that Lord Shiva had held the Ganga river in these locks.

So, if you want to witness this mystical and magical phenomenon then you must come here in the freezing winters!

Sat Tal

Often called a dream come true for photographers, this enchanting place is truly quite magical. Sattal can be accessed by a short trek of 2 km from Harsil. This a great place to appreciate the bounty of nature and revel in its offerings.

This place, as the name suggests is famous for its seven lakes, all of which are so aesthetically pleasing. Sattal is also great for bird watchers who can come here to find many migratory birds just hovering around and relishing the landscapes as well.

You can explore Sattal by foot, or just come for a day trip and have a lovely picnic by one of the lakes to enjoy good family time.

Kedartal

Kedartal is essentially a lake which is also called Shiva’s Lake. This mystical lake is situated at an elevation of 4,812 m above sea level, which makes it one of the highest lakes in Uttarakhand.

The Kedartal trek is not at all easy, and you will have to battle bone-chilling winds, narrow passes, snow-covered roads, and cascading waterfalls, that will both charm you and scare you. But, the enchanting lake is definitely worth the effort.

The Kedartal originates from the Kedar Glacier, which then gives birth to Kedar Ganga. This trek will also lead you through thick forests, wherein you can encounter several animals like- goats, the blue sheep, and many others, making your journey more exciting.

Maneri

If time isn’t an issue for you, then you must make your way to the stunning Maneri village located near Gangotri. This mesmerising town is nestled in the laps of nature and is located about 92 km from Gangotri. You can embark on a short trek to reach here and spend a lazy afternoon here.

Maneri also has an enchanting dam, wherein you can spread your blankets and have a delicious fun-filled picnic at. The captivating landscapes will only elevate your mood and make your time at Maneri all the more memorable.

You can also try your luck at fishing here and barbecue them over a live fire! Wouldn’t that be just perfect?

Gaumukh

The famous trekking trail of Gaumukh is an extremely important site in the Hindu religion. Many pilgrims visit Gaumukh after visiting Gangotri to make their trip more blessed and pious.

It will take you about three days to trek from Gangotri to Gaumukh, but it is certainly worth the extra effort.

Situated at an altitude of 13,200 feet above sea level, Gaumukh hosts the second largest glacier in India- you just cannot miss such a sight! It is almost a sin to come as far as Gangotri and not witness the splendor of Gaumukh.

Once you reach the top of this trek, you will be taken aback by the wondrous views that will unfold in front of you. The top resembles a winter wonderland, filled with glaciers, snow touched peaks, a pristine white veil of snow and shimmering icicles.

Bhaironghati – 10 km from Gangotri Temple

Located about 10 km from Gagortri, this tiny hamlet is a great place for a little me-time. Situated right at the confluence of Jadh Ganga and Bhagirathi rivers, this place is truly surreal.

The sky is always blue here, and the meadows are always green here, intercepted with flowing streams and azure lakes.

Bhaironghati also houses a small temple of Bhairav Nath, which can be accessed through a thick forest. The Jahanvi River is also near about and can be easily accessed by walking.

Bhaironghati is one of the best places to spend idle time. You can also get that much-needed break from the hustle-bustle of city life. The nature trails from here are also quite scenic and will ka you through some lovely avenue and areas.

Harsil – 26 km from Gangotri Temple

If you are looking to visit an untouched, unexplored and hidden treasure, then Harsil is the place for you. This tranquil town is waiting for people to come and explore all its hidden gems.

Harsil is a famous destination for backpackers and nature lovers, but it is yet to become a tourist hotspot. The fields are green and not crowded, and the forests are clean.

You can also embark on many challenging treks that will pump up your adrenaline, or just spend some quiet days to rejuvenate your batteries again! After all, is there any better way to rejuvenate yourself than by meditating by the clear lakes, with the Himalayas as your background.

Kalindi Khal

The beautiful scenic beauty of the Kalindi Khal can make anybody’s heart jump in joy. The serene locales, the relaxed lifestyle and the breathtaking landscapes- this place is a dream come true. Coupled with such serenity lies a basket full of adventures and difficult treks that will make your adrenaline rush.

You will encounter this route if you are on your way to Badrinath to Gangotri.

The Kalindi Khal trek is in no way easy and can leave you gasping for air at times. Yet, the joy of reaching the top and witnessing the splendour will be enough to keep you going and motivated.
