Legend

The town of Triyuginarayan itself is filled with anecdotes about Lord Shiva and Parvati. It is believed that Lord Shiva proposed Parvati at Guptakashi, and then they tied their knots at Triyuginarayan. Everywhere you go the local villagers will narrate the story. They speak about how Lord Vishnu himself was there at the wedding and took on the role of Parvati’s brother for the ceremony. The creator Brahma too makes an appearance and is said to have been the priest in the wedding. The little ponds situated in and around, are also the places where the Gods had supposedly taken a dip before the wedding. Thus, the ponds too were blessed with a holy touch.

Architecture

As you reach the temple the first thing you will notice is that it looks starkly similar to the Kedarnath temple. These two temples are actually merely located at a distance of 12km from each other.

Being similar to the Kedarnath temple, it has managed to attract a lot of devotees who throng here to bow their heads in devotion. The temple also goes by the names of Akhand Dhuni Temple. From the moment you enter the temple, you will find yourself greeted by the famous flame that has been burning through three eras. This flame is like the essence of this temple, and it is said that it was lit on the day of  Lord Shiva and Parvati’s marriage, and since then it has never gone out. The whole mystic surrounding the flame is something that has made this temple holier and more pious. It gives the temple a sense of mystic and power that it commands with ease.

The devotees and pilgrims usually throw wood into the eternal flame and collect the ashes as blessings.

Inside the temple, you will find a 2 ft tall idol of Lord Vishnu. He is accompanied by Goddess Laxmi and the Goddess of music and learning, Saraswati.

If you walk towards the courtyard of the temple you will find a stone- this stone marks the spot where the holy wedding between the two divine entities took place.

The resplendent courtyard has an acute aroma of incense stick and you can somehow picture the holy wedding quite vividly as you stand there and soak up all the aura emanating from the ground.

The temple courtyard is also a water reservoir which provides water to large ponds in the area. These ponds are made for different purposes like the Rudra Kund is for bathing, Vishnu Kund for Cleansing and the Brahma Kund for sipping.

This wondrous temple is one of a kind and is blessed with a beautiful aura that keeps radiating and rubbing off. The locales especially are marvellous and after you visit the temple you should trek a little more and visit the extremely holy Kedarnath temple.
